Eclipse solar total 2027 en Conil

2 August 2027 · Conil de la Frontera · Costa de la Luz
Some trips are remembered for a beach, a meal or a sunset.
And then there are those trips you remember because, for a few minutes, day turns into night.
On 2 August 2027, the Moon will pass directly in front of the Sun, creating a total solar eclipse visible from southern Spain. Conil de la Frontera will be located within the path of totality.
If you are thinking about travelling to the Costa de la Luz around these dates, this could be a truly special opportunity to combine an extraordinary astronomical event with a few days of holiday in Conil.
🌑 What will happen on 2 August 2027?

A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon moves between the Earth and the Sun, casting its shadow over our planet.
During a partial eclipse, the Moon covers only part of the Sun.
During a total solar eclipse, however, there comes a moment when the Sun's disc is completely covered by the Moon.
That is when something extraordinary happens: daylight changes, the sky becomes noticeably darker and some of the brightest stars and planets may become visible.
The 2 August 2027 eclipse will cross the southern part of the Iberian Peninsula. The path of totality will pass through much of Cádiz province, as well as parts of Málaga, Granada and Almería.
And yes: Conil de la Frontera will be within the path of totality.
📍 What time will the eclipse be visible in Conil?
If you are going to be in Conil that day, these are the current times provided by Spain's National Geographic Institute (IGN):
| Phase | Time |
|---|---|
| Eclipse begins | 09:40:35 |
| Totality begins | 10:44:51 |
| Maximum eclipse | 10:46:51 |
| Totality ends | 10:48:51 |
| Eclipse ends | 11:59:47 |
Totality will last approximately four minutes in Conil.
This means that the central moment will be relatively brief, but the experience begins much earlier and continues afterwards. The entire eclipse will last for more than two hours.
The exact timings may be refined as the date approaches, so we recommend checking the official information from the National Geographic Institute before travelling.
☀️ Why is Conil a special place to experience the eclipse?
Conil has something that makes it particularly attractive for an event like this: the open landscape of the Costa de la Luz.
The area combines kilometres of coastline, beaches, natural surroundings and landscapes where it is possible to find open spaces away from large urban centres.
The eclipse will also take place in the morning.
Once the phenomenon is over, you will still have almost the entire day ahead of you to enjoy Conil.
And that is one of the great advantages of travelling here:
you don't have to choose between the eclipse and your holiday. You can enjoy both.
🌊 An eclipse and a few days on the Costa de la Luz
Imagine waking up in Conil on 2 August 2027.
Having breakfast at your own pace.
Getting your solar viewing glasses ready.
Finding a place with a clear view.
And waiting.
At 10:44, totality will begin.
For a few minutes, the whole atmosphere will change.
Then the Sun will gradually return, and you will still have the rest of the day ahead of you.
You could head to the beach, enjoy fresh fish in Conil, visit Zahora, discover Vejer, explore the coast towards Los Caños de Meca or finish the day watching the sunset over the Atlantic.
That is why the eclipse can be much more than a one-night getaway.
It can be a week to remember.

👓 How can you safely observe the eclipse?
This is probably the most important part.
Never look directly at the Sun during the partial phases of the eclipse without appropriate eye protection.
Ordinary sunglasses are not suitable for viewing a solar eclipse.
To look directly at the Sun during the partial phases, you must use solar viewing glasses or filters specifically designed and certified for solar observation.
It is also important to follow the recommendations of official organisations and use certified equipment.
During totality, there is a very specific period when the Sun is completely covered and the viewing conditions change. Even so, extreme care is required, and appropriate protection must be used again before totality ends and direct sunlight returns.
Safety should always come before getting the perfect photograph.
📷 Can you photograph the eclipse?
Yes, but solar photography requires preparation.
If you want to photograph the eclipse, it is advisable to learn beforehand about:
- Suitable solar filters.
- Camera settings.
- Using a tripod.
- Protecting your equipment.
- Telephoto lenses.
- Exposure settings.
- How to photograph totality.
And above all, never point a camera or smartphone directly at the Sun without the appropriate protection for the equipment when required.
If your main goal is simply to capture a memory, sometimes the best option is to enjoy the moment first and take the photographs afterwards.
🌡️ What will Conil be like in August?
August is one of the warmest months of the year on the Costa de la Luz.
The eclipse will take place during the morning, so it is worth preparing for the heat and remembering to bring:
- Water.
- Sun protection.
- A hat or cap.
- Lightweight clothing.
- Comfortable footwear.
- Certified solar viewing protection.
It will also be important to choose your viewing location in advance and take possible travel times into account.
🚗 When should I book my accommodation?
If you are planning to travel to Conil specifically for the eclipse, our recommendation is not to wait until the last few weeks.
2 August 2027 is a very specific date, and the path of totality will cover only a limited part of Spain.
Many people are also likely to combine the eclipse with several days of holiday in Andalusia.
The earlier you know your travel dates, the more choice you will have when looking for accommodation that suits you.
🌑 A week to remember
The eclipse may be the reason for your trip.
But it probably won't be the only thing you remember.
You will remember Conil's beaches.

The long lunches.
And, above all, that moment on the morning of 2 August 2027 when the light changed and, for a few minutes, the day seemed to become night.
